Municipal Plan Review
The Town of Sussex is undertaking a review of its Municipal Plan By-law with the intent to provide better direction and guidance for the Town and its residents over the next ten (10) years. The Municipal Plan By-law will be updated through a community-led planning process, which will allow Town Staff to capture community priorities and implement new objectives for the Town of Sussex. Press Release May 2019 Funding for Flood Mitigation
The Town of Sussex and its residents are appreciative of the funding consideration under this federal program addressing phase 1 of the Town’s disaster mitigation and the assistance of our Member of Parliament Alaina Lockhart, Fundy Royal for helping the residents of Sussex to achieve the necessary focus on flooding issues in Sussex and her assistance in securing this important project funding.
Environmental Trust Fund Funding Secured
The Town of Sussex has secured $37,000 Environmental Trust Fund funding for the development of the Town’s Climate Change Adaptation Plan estimated at $50,000.
Flood Mitigation Master Plan Task Force Formed
Both the Town of Sussex and Village of Sussex Corner have met since January 25th, 2019 flood event and have discussed a joint effort to be launched in February 2019 looking at a Joint Flood Mitigation Master Plan assessment in our communities. Both Sussex and Sussex Corner have formed a “Flood Mitigation Master Plan Task Force” to explore and refine options to address overland / surface water flooding, if and where possible, and to develop a new Flood Master Plan for both communities, jointly.

Aging infrastructure, including roads, buildings and bridges, competing priorities, limited budgets. These are some of the challenges municipalities like the Town of Sussex face in making infrastructure decisions today.
Sussex is Going Green
Communities across Canada are facing the effects of climate change. While the effects differ for many communities Sussex has dealt first hand with many of these events. Some examples are shorter and warmer winters, river erosion, flooding and damage to infrastructure. Repercussions will cost municipalities and their communities funding dollars and the implementation of adaptation and mitigation measures in and for communities seem inevitable today. Municipal Governments such as the Town of Sussex have a leading role to play in climate protection.
