Planning Advisory Committee
The Planning Advisory Committee (PAC) provides advice and makes decisions on certain planning and development matters within Sussex. The Committee considers applications and matters referred to it in accordance with the Community Planning Act, the Sussex Zoning By-law, Subdivision By-law, Municipal Plan, and other applicable legislation and municipal policies.
PAC helps support responsible development and land-use planning while considering the interests of property owners, applicants, neighbouring residents, and the community.
The Planning Advisory Committee is composed of volunteer members appointed by Sussex Council. Residents interested in serving on the PAC may contact Town Office for information regarding future opportunities to apply.
Meetings:
Regular meetings of the Planning Advisory Committee are held on the second Wednesday of each month.
Location: Council Chambers of Town Hall (Back Entrance)
Meeting Time: 4:30 p.m.
Agendas and meeting packages are posted online on the Friday preceding each scheduled PAC meeting.
Meeting dates are subject to change, and meetings may be cancelled when there are no applications or other matters requiring consideration.
Applications:
To have an application considered by the Planning Advisory Committee, applicants are required to:
- Submit a letter of application outlining the request and clearly identifying the variance being sought;
- Pay the $50 application fee;
- Provide all supporting documents required for the application.
The complete application must be submitted to the Clerk no later than the last day of the month, two months before the scheduled PAC meeting. See deadline schedule below.
Example: An application to be considered at a June PAC meeting must be submitted by April 30.

Attending a PAC Meeting:
PAC meetings are open to the public and are held in Council Chambers at Town Hall, 524 Main Street. Please enter through the back entrance and take a seat in the public gallery. Meeting agendas will be available.
Applicants will have an opportunity to speak to their application, and attendance is strongly encouraged. If the applicant is not in attendance, the application may be tabled until a future meeting when they are available.
Applicants will be advised of the decision at the meeting, with written communication to follow.
