Maple Avenue Bridge Closure
UPDATES:
March 31, 2026 Update
DTI has determined that repairs to the existing bridge are not feasible and that a replacement bridge will be required . Detailed design is underway but timelines are unknown at this time. DTI and the town of Sussex have initiated discussions and will continue to coordinate on this matter. A possibility of pedestrian access across the existing bridge is being evaluated.
April 14, 2026 Update
The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure has opened a walkway for pedestrian access to cross the Maple Avenue bridge. Please follow appropriate signage and stay within the barriers when crossing.
The closure of the Maple Avenue Bridge is deeply impacting our community, and we understand how important this connection is for residents, businesses, and visitors alike.
While the bridge is not owned or maintained by the Town, we are collaboratively communicating with the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure (DTI) to explore ways to accelerate this project forward and advocate for timely next steps.
We will continue to advocate for our residents while DTI works to advance the project as quickly as possible. Any updates will be shared above as they are provided by DTI.
