Public Skating returns to the 8th Hussars

The Town of Sussex is pleased to announce that public skating will be available for people and their families starting February 11th and continuing Sunday-Friday each week until the end of the ice season.

Everyone must preregister by completing the registration form in the event listing for each day (see our calendar of event). You can register up to 48 hours in advance and until 30 minutes before the skating time for all of our upcoming skates. Limited spots are available. Registrations will stop once a session is full.

The doors will be open 30 minutes before the skate time and close when the skating time starts.

If you need to cancel a booking please reply to the confirmation email you received when registering or call 432-4573.

Volunteer Nomination

2021 marks the Town of Sussex celebrating volunteers for 30 years. Because were were unable to host a volunteer reception for 2020 as ask organization to nominate a volunteer for both 2020 and 2021 if you are able.

National Volunteer week takes place April 18-24 2021, all volunteers nominated will be contacted to attend a ceremony to celebrate.

This is a great opportunity to extend to any volunteers that are involved in your group and community. The Town of Sussex is excited to host this amazing night and hope that as many groups as possible will participate.

Coyote Sighting

The public is advised that resident has spotted a coyote on the Sussex Nature Walkway in the area of the Bark Park (off McLeod Drive). Trail users and area residents are advised to read the attached information from the Department of Natural Resources.

Please report any additional sightings or nuisance incidents in Town at 432-4540.

Voting for Photo Contest

We have had a great response to the recent photo contest that we need your help. Please vote below for the picture you like the most. Voting will be done until November 18th and the winner will be announced November 19th.

Movie in the Park – Postponed until July 15th

On a trial basis the Town of Sussex would like to announce that there will be a movie July 15th starting at dusk (8:30 pm). The movie playing will be Open Season. In regards to Covid-19 extra safety measures are in place for our events. If you are planning on attending the Movie in the Park on July 15th please register your family.  If you or anyone in your family bubble experience any symptoms leading up to the movie we would ask you to stay home.

Registration is part one and must include everyone attending the movie, see the add participant block of the registration to add your family members. Part two is signing in at the park and ensuring that all the names we have registered for your family are onsite.

You understand that you are required to bring a community mask for everyone in your family bubble that will be attending the Aug 5th movie in the park. Community mask will be needed when social distancing cannot be maintained outside of your assigned spot. *
I understand that it is the responsibility of the persons in your bubble to bring hand sanitizer if they require it. *

Comfort Station and Splashpad Operational

The Town is pleased to advise the park-going public that the splashpad and new Kiwanis Comfort Station in O’Connell Park are now open for the public to access from 9:00am to 9:00pm daily.

Stonedust walkways have been established approaching the new building as we work to complete the remaining landscaping in the park space. We appreciate your support in staying out of the areas which are taped off for future work.

A formal ribbon cutting ceremony, respecting the current COVID-19 measures, will be conducted at a later date with our funding partners, the Kiwanis Club of Sussex, and the Province of New Brunswick.
