Blue-Green Algae: What to Watch For This Summer

Be Aware of Blue-Green Algae
As the weather warms up, residents are reminded to watch for blue-green algae (cyanobacteria) in local lakes and rivers. These naturally occurring bacteria can form harmful blooms that may pose health risks to people and pets.

Avoid swimming, drinking, or letting pets near water that looks discolored, foamy, or has green scum. Blooms can appear quickly and are not always easy to spot.
