RCMP Alert Ready System
The New Brunswick RCMP is reminding residents about how the Alert Ready system works and what to expect during a public safety emergency. The system is used to issue critical alerts, such as Amber Alerts or police-involved incidents, that pose a serious threat to public safety.
Who Sends the Alerts?
The RCMP is responsible for issuing Alert Ready messages when there is an active, police-related threat in New Brunswick. These messages are designed to reach people quickly and efficiently in the affected area.
What to Do if You Receive an Alert
If you receive an Alert Ready message:
- Follow the instructions provided until you’re told otherwise.
- Check on loved ones in the affected area to ensure they’re aware of the situation.
- Do not call 911, unless you are experiencing an emergency or have information directly related to the incident.
- Avoid sharing police locations or photos of ongoing operations, as this may compromise public and officer safety.
- Stay tuned for official updates via Alert Ready or through the RCMP’s social media channels.
Why Alerts May Be Delayed
The RCMP notes that Alert Ready messages are not always immediate. Before issuing an alert, police need time to:
- Respond to the initial call
- Assess the situation
- Gather credible, verifiable information
Decisions are made based on the best available evidence at the time, with a focus on caution and public safety.
Didn’t Receive the Alert?
Alert Ready messages are only sent to devices located within the impacted area. If you were in that area but did not receive the alert, the RCMP recommends contacting your wireless service provider.
Ongoing Communication
During an emergency, the RCMP shares information through multiple channels, including:
- Alert Ready messages
- Social media (Facebook and Twitter)
- News releases and media interviews
- Direct communication with affected residents and organizations
The RCMP emphasizes patience, cooperation, and responsible use of communication tools during emergency situations. These collective efforts help ensure that residents and responders stay safe and informed.
