EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY – MECHANIC (TEMPORARY POSITION)
The town of Sussex invites applications for a temporary Mechanic position.
We are seeking a skilled journeyman to perform maintenance, repair, and installation of diesel and gasoline vehicles and equipment, including trucks, small engines, and construction equipment.
Work will be carried out under the direction of the Superintendent of Public Works, with a high degree of independent judgment, and may include supervising support staff when required.
Key Responsibilities:
• Diagnose, repair, and maintain town-owned vehicles and equipment
• Perform regular maintenance, including oil and grease changes
• Conduct road tests, field repairs, and minor bodywork or welding as needed
• Advise on replacement or purchase of vehicles and equipment
• Work safely in all weather conditions and contribute to a positive, team-oriented environment
Required Qualifications:
• Journeyman certificate in motor repair, truck, or transport apprenticeship recognized by the Province of New Brunswick
• Valid Class 5 New Brunswick driver’s license with air brake endorsement and clean driving abstract
• Clear criminal record check
• Physical strength and agility to perform demanding tasks
• Ability to work independently and supervise staff as needed
• Knowledge of gasoline and diesel engines, automotive systems, and auxiliary equipment
Assets:
• First Aid/CPR certification
• WHMIS and TDG training
This is a unionized (CUPE Local #2163) full-time position at $34.92/hour (2025 rates). Hours may include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
