Santa Claus Parade Registration
!!IMPORTANT INFO FOR PARADE PARTICIPANTS!!
• FLOAT ARRIVING 4:00-6:00 pm – Floats must arrive completed or with all supplies on the float. No vehicles will be allowed on parade line up to drop items off. (If you show up earlier just pull to the side of the road).
• ALL parade participants MUST BE DROPPED OFF AT THE ARENA PARKING LOT. Not in the line up at Perry Street (vehicles registered to be in the parade only). Please have a contact number for your group or a messenger group so they know where you are set up.
• Cars can be parked in the arena parking lot. (Do not enter by Perry Street)
• DRIVERS must refrain from using loud sirens, horns, and flashing lights within the sensory-friendly zone (Which is within the school zone Morrison Avenue to Fundy Street – there will be signs) for individuals with sensory issues. Music & regular lights are permitted in the quiet zone.
• SAFETY —
- All vehicles must be safe for the road and road legal.
- All floats need a fire extinguisher
- No feel can dangle from floats
- A space of 20 feet between each unit will be enforced.
- All units are required to close gap between units.
- No Material of any kind may be thrown along the parade route, passed directly into hands is fine.
- All entries and participants as asked to be with their entry and ready to go no later than 6:15 pm
• WARMING AND WASHROOMS – Will be available at Jubilee Hall.
• IF YOU ARE REGISTERED AS A WALKING GROUP and are planning on doing anything but walking you need permission ex: playing a sport, gymnastics, juggling, backward movements etc. Contact Roberta Craft at 432-4573 or email roberta.craft@sussex.ca
This year’s theme is: “It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas” Rules are:
- Entrants must observe all applicable road rules and regulations including the use of helmets on livestock i.e.: horses and ATV’s. Entrants must also follow instructions from police and parade officials.
- All drivers of any and all vehicles in the parade areas must possess a valid driver’s license and possess all liability vehicle insurance. Any offences including damages to property, accidents or otherwise is the sole responsibility of the own/operator and the Town of Sussex accepts no responsibility.
- Gentle Zone area which will run from the Sussex Elementary School (Morrison Avenue to Fundy Street). This means music as usual however no horns or sirens.
- You can ONLY enter the parade grounds through the Perry Street entrance closest to the train crossing. (No entry at the St. John Ambulance end except for fire trucks that will come in by Saint John ambulance and park by the skateboard park).
- Line up as you arrive the numbers you are assigned are for judging only not lining up. Entries will be moved if needed once the parade gets started.
- Anyone walking with a group or riding on a float MUST park at the arena and walk over to the float or plan to meet a member from the organization to walk over as a group.
- A space of 20 feet between each unit will be enforced. All units are required to close gap between units when instructed by parade officials. (no Gaps)
- No Material of any kind may be thrown along the parade route. If passing out items, items must go directly in spectator’s hands.
- Forward movements only are permitted during parade route
- Livestock and domestic animals are permitted to be in the parade and must have someone to clean up if necessary. Liability of animals or passengers is the sole responsibility of the owner, and the Town of Sussex accepts no responsibility.
- Only Christmas theme music will be allowed. Town of Sussex reserves the right to withdraw any entry which does not meet the Christmas parade rules and regulations or conform to the standards of reasonable public taste and fit the parade theme.
- The Town of Sussex reserve the right to remove any entrant from the parade either prior to assembly, while assembling or any time during the parade.
- No participant shall dress as Santa Claus, as there is only one Santa in the parade.
- “Letter Carriers” MUST keep walking and pick up what they can for letters, continues stops creates spaces in the parade which can be dangerous as drivers think the end has passed and get caught in-between floats.
- All entries and participants as asked to be with their entry and ready to go no later than 6:15 pm
